In 1998, on the 30th anniversary of my 1968 Olympic victory, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. For me, it was another Olympics, a life Olympics. Early detection saved my life. And I believe that my lifelong dedication to health, fitness and personal accomplishment also played an important role in my victory. I was one of the lucky ones, and I am grateful. I decided to share my hopes, my fears and my triumph with people around the world. I hope my story will be an inspiration to anyone facing breast cancer, and that I will be one of the strong symbols of the victories that can be achieved against life's greatest challenges. Rose Wine by Green Point from Yarra Valley, Australia. Delicate and fresh fragrances of red berry, cherry and strawberry leap from the glass and entice the tastebuds. Soft and round, the mid palate offers floral, strawberry and red currant notes that extend through to a dry, savoury back palate. The supple and fresh mouth feel is complimented by a balanced and persistent finish.

Rose Wine by Innocent Bystander from Yarra Valley, Australia. Reminiscent of Provence and long afternoons sipping Bandol, the nose offers up rose water, flower blossoms, shaved fennel and springtime. The palate highlights racy plum juice and blackcurrant qualities, rounding out a ripe, fuller bodied style not usually seen in Australia. Crisp and zippy, finishing with a long cut.

Ros? Wine by Folie a Deux from California. The 2006 Menage a Trois Rose is a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Gewurztraminer. The two red grapes received a 24-hour cold soak on the skins to give the wine its suggestive pinkness and luscious body. The Gewurztraminer was cold fermented to preserve the exotic spice and naked fruit. No malolactic fermentation here - just crisp acidity. This is the epitome of a good rose: a fruit-laden roller coaster ride of raspberries, strawberries, lychee nuts and flowers with a silky smooth finish.

Ros? Wine by Yering Station from Yarra Valley, Australia. Medium pink. Raspberry & cherry preserve aromas offer an inviting, floral accent. Ros? Wine by Falesco from Italian, Italy. Blend: 30% Merlot, 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Aleatico Deep coral in color, Vitiano Rose delivers clean, juicy aromas of strawberries, plums, cranberries, and scents of roses and gardenias. Dry, medium-bodied and refreshing, Vitiano Rose is delicious with salads, grilled vegetables, grilled fish such as salmon or tuna, and with mussels marinara.

Ros? Wine by Toad Hollow from Sonoma County, California. This is Toad Hollow's ninth vintage of Pinot Noir Rose and one of their best to date. It has incredible body and weight. This wine is a beautiful pink with a hint of Beaujolais blue, and has a nose of rose petals and violets. It is a truly dry, uncomplicated statement of Pinot Noir at its lightest and most delicate. Spice and pepper bring out the wonderful wild strawberry flavors. This wine is great with sushi and wasabi or spicy Thai food.

Blend: 50% Grenache, 40% Cinsault, 10% Syrah With floral and crushed red cherry aromas, this wine shows full-bodied, ripe, mineral-driven fruit on the palate, with tangy undertones and a note of white pepper. The wine has a fresh, lip-smacking fruit character and an easygoing, uncomplicated nature that makes it pair well with a variety of dishes. The wine has acidity and tannins that are ripe but firm. Food matches: Salads, quiche, grilled vegetables, fish, chicken, Asian cuisine.

With a fine ruby color, Yalumba Y Series Sangiovese Rose has exotic aromas of raspberries, strawberries and cream with notes of lilac and violets, all with a minerally edge. Ros? Wine by Cune from Rioja, Spain. Blend: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha Attractive strawberry & raspberry pink color, full of ripe summer fruit & herbaceous notes on the nose. Primary ripe summer fruits on the opening palate which follows into good length and complexity in the finish.

Rose Wine by Artazu from Spain. The Artazu project was created by the legendary winegrower Juan Carlos Lopez de la Calle of Rioja's famous Artadi estate. The goal was to take the same quest for varietal purity that Juan seeks in Tempranillo to the Garnacha varietal. Of the various locales that were investigated, the small village of Artazu in the northernmost zone of Navarra was chosen for its extra-ordinary old vines of Garnacha. The soil is mainly composed of limestone, with alternating layers of chalk and red clay, producing wines of dark, peppery fruit with amazing balance and soft tannins. These are delicious, not-to-be-missed wines. The 2006 Artazu Artazuri Rose is a saignee of up to 80 year old vine Garnacha, vinified stainless, aged in tank until spring.

Ros? Wine by Ch. Ste. Michelle from Columbia Valley, Washington. 96% Syrah. Its darkish rose color signals a deeper wine to follow, and this fairly rich, fresh and slightly juicy bottling comes through right on key. Its medium-full weight is balanced by vital acidity, and its bare hint of sweetness extends its fruit without reducing its desirability as a lightly vinous, thoroughly delightful partner to summertime meals. -Connoisseurs' Guide Pink is hot! Our Dry Rose was a big hit when we offered it exclusively to our Vintage Reserve Club members last year. Based on their feedback, we decided to release it nationally with this 2006 vintage. The name, Nellie's Garden, honors Nellie Stimson whose passion for gardening created the beautiful estate gardens at our Chateau in Woodinville. The wine is a special collaboration between our red winemaking team at Canoe Ridge Estate in eastern Washington and the white winemaking team at our Woodinville Chateau, located outside of Seattle. We receive the red fruit at Canoe Ridge Estate where Joshua Maloney, our red winemaker, gives it just enough skin contact for the perfect color. Then he drains the juice off the skins and turns it over to Brennon Leighton, our white winemaker, who then cold ferments most of the juice to keep all those fresh fruit and floral aromas. What a team effort and what a wonderfully refreshing dry rose! It shows beautiful fruit aromas and flavors of strawberry, cherry, raspberry with subtle spice notes. Enjoy this during your spring and summer parties and BBQ's. It's the perfect deck wine... versatile and fun!

Ros? Wine by L'Estandon from Provence, France - regions. The pale pink color introduces a fresh, nicely aromatic rose, with a round and silky texture and good length on the palate. A wine for summer picnic foods, grilled fish and all sorts of chicken and salads.

Rose Wine by Falesco from Italian, Italy. This Rose is produced from the Vitiano juice obtained after the first 24 hours of skin contact. Fortunately, this means the same care for the vines, perfect ripening and manual harvest of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is fermented in stainless steel to maintain the optimum freshness and clean fruit. Just over 4,000 cases are produced. A perfect wine for summer, or as an accompaniment to grilled fish or mussels in marinara. Its big, sweet nose of strawberries, plums, cranberries, and flowers is followed by an equally fruity, dry, medium-bodied rose possessing abundant personality. -Wine Advocate

Ros? Wine by Perrin from Cotes du Rhone, France - Rhone. Varietals: Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre Traditional winemaking by saignee - the French term meaning bled, for a wine-making technique which results in a rose wine made by running off or bleeding, a certain amount of free-run juice from just-crushed dark-skinned grapes after a short, prefermentation maceration. Clearly a wine from a warm place, the color is an intense pink with bright reflections. The nose is fresh, of redcurrants and yellow raspberries. The mouth is supple with fruity roundness in the middle, and a lively finish that is quite long. Pair with any summer foods or Mediterranean dishes. A perfect pairing would be grilled pork ribs with white peach and verbena julienne.
